The following were the [M 005 / 11 administrative sections]:
1. Liaodong, a fortress town that covered 605 miles of wall starting from Dandong at the mouth of the Yalu River to Shanhaiguan Pass.
2. Jizhen, which had its headquarters at Santunying. This section of wall ran for 546 miles and was manned by more than 100,000 men.
3. Changzhen, with its headquarters at Changping, was intended to defend the capital and the Ming tombs. The wall here totalled 143 miles and ran from [P 016&P017 / Mutianyu] towards the Zijingguan Pass.
4. Zhenbao, with headquarters in Baoding, was set up to defend Beijing. The wall under its jurisdiction ran for 242 miles from the Zijingguan Pass south towards Guguan Pass.
5. Xuanfu. This section of the wall totalled 317 miles starting at Juyongguan pass and running west to Xiyanghe River. Headquarters was at Xuanhua with about 150,000 men stationed there.
6. Datong. This 208-mile wall ran from Zhenkoutai west to Yajiaoshan. The headquarters was in Datong itself with forces here totalling 135,000.
7. Taiyuan, also known as Shanxi fortress town, ruled the wall from the banks of the Yellow River at Baode and Hequ through Pianguan pass to Huangyuling. It was 496 miles long and was sometimes called the Inner Great Wall.
8. Yansui, also called Yulin, was a fortress town with its headquarters first at Suide and then at Yulinbao. The wall here totalled 549 miles, starting from Huangfuzhou and running west to Huamachi. Over 80,000 men manned this stretch.
9. The headquarters for the Ningxia section was at Yinchuan. The wall ran for 620 miles from Dayanchi to Lanjing and 71,693 men manned it.
10. Guyuan had its headquarters at Guyuan county in the Ningxia region. The wall here ran for 310 miles from Jingbian to Yulin fortress town. From there it ran to Gaolan, connecting with the wall at [M 004 / Gansu] in the west. About 127,000 men manned this section.
11. Gansu, with its headquarters in Zhangye, ran 496 miles from Jincheng to [P 012 / Jiayuguan] Pass.
